Husnay Ara Begum (Bonna)

Husnay Ara Begum is a Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist and is working for last 23 years. She earned her MSc and M Phil degree in Clinical Psychology in 2003 and 2006 respectively from Dept. of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka. She is practicing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Systemic Family Therapy. Her client group includes child, adult, older adults with psychiatric illness. Her case load also involves persons with stress and other life problems. She also is conducting family therapy for couples and families with relational problems.

Husnay Ara Begum has keen interest and expertise in psychological assessment which included but not limited to Test of Intelligence (IQ test), Personality assessment, Assessment of Adaptive Functioning and so on.  

Husnay Ara Begum worked as Psychologist in Shamsunnahar Hall, a hall for female students at Dhaka University, under suicide prevention program from 2008 to 2022. She gained rich experience during this work to deal with psychiatric emergencies like suicide attempts and various problems of young people (students) including study related problems, relationship problems, adjustment problems etc. From 2022 to current date she is working as a family therapist at Family Therapy Clinic (FTC) of Nasirullah Psychotherapy Unit (NPU) under the Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka.

Husnay Ara Begum is a skilled trainer of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Systemic Family Therapy and master trainer of MhGap training (organized by WHO and the NCDC of DGHS). She is an enlisted facilitator of National Trauma Counseling Centre (NTCC) of Ministry of Women and Children’s Affair which covers various training program on different psychological and mental health issues. Along with facilitating she also develop training modules on different mental health issues for Save the Children, Acid Survivor Foundation (ASF), Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM). Husnay Ara Begum is supervising clinical psychology interns since 2004 and systemic family therapy interns since 2024. She is an EC member of Bangladesh Clinical Psychology Society (BCPS) and her membership number is G06001. She is also EC member of Family Therapy Association Bangladesh (FTAB).
